How to Play Island Beekeeper
How to play Island Beekeeper — core loop, first hour, honey shipping, bees, Medocycle travel, and co-op basics after the Steam launch.
How to Play Island Beekeeper
Island Beekeeper is a cozy sky-island sim from Akuseru Studio. You build an apiary above the clouds, catch and crossbreed bees, grow crops, cook, and ship healing honey to a dying Earth. There is no combat — progress comes from honey, orders, exploration, and light survival meters.
This page is the short how to play overview. For a linear first day, use the Day 1 Walkthrough. For systems depth, open the Gameplay Hub.
The Core Loop
Every strong session repeats the same cycle:
- Gather wood, stone, flax, flowers, and ore on your island.
- Craft tools at the Workbench (axe, pickaxe, hammer, hoe, watering can, bug net, smoker).
- Catch a queen, place her in a hive with empty frames near flowers.
- Extract honey from full frames, jar it, and send jars through the Post Station.
- Spend reputation to unlock new islands, then explore on the Medocycle.
If one step feels stuck, check Honey Production and Troubleshooting.

Beekeeping Basics
- Break a wild hive carefully, then net the queen while your health is high — bees can sting.
- Slot empty frames into a hive before expecting nectar fills.
- Keep flowers or crops watered nearby; dry gardens slow honey.
- Use the smoker before pulling frames to cut stings.
- Crossbreed for hybrids once you have two species — see Bee Breeding and the Bee Tier List.
Survival Without Combat
Hunger, thirst, sleep, cold, and lava matter more than enemies. Cook early food in the kitchen, brew tea for cold resistance after patch 1.01.1, and treat volcanic lava as lethal after the July 29 fixes. The pause menu includes Unstuck if you softlock. Full details: Survival and Potions & Tea.
Travel and Weather
The Medocycle burns honey as fuel in Travel and Flight modes. Upgrade it to reach distant biomes. Weather can change per island — patch 1.01.2 restored weather transitions that had stuck on clear skies. Read Weather & Conditions before long cold or storm routes.
Co-op and Solo
Play solo or local split-screen with 1–4 players. Online multiplayer is not in 1.0. Split roles early: bees, farming, exploration. See Co-op Mode.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the main goal in Island Beekeeper?
Build a working apiary, produce jarred honey, fulfill Earth orders at the Post Station, and explore new sky islands while uncovering what happened to earlier beekeepers.
Is there combat in Island Beekeeper?
No. Challenges come from survival meters, stings during hive work, weather, lava on volcanic islands, and exploration risk — not combat encounters.
How do I ship honey to Earth?
Build a Post Station, load jarred honey (or order items) into the drone, and send the shipment. Successful deliveries raise reputation and unlock routes. See the Post Station guide.
Can I play with friends online?
Not at launch. Island Beekeeper ships with local co-op for 1–4 players on one machine. Online multiplayer is not part of the 1.0 feature set.
