Island Traders Guide | Island Beekeeper Wiki
Island Beekeeper traders — Bear Merchant, shrine keepers, island seed sellers, and save-recovery notes after the August 2026 trader update.
Island Traders Guide
Island Beekeeper is not a silent sky. Besides bees and empty camps, you meet traders who sell seeds, restore missing goods, and give the islands a lived-in economy. Players search this page after the official Island Traders Steam update and after patch 1.01.5 put seed crafting back on the Workbench.
This guide covers who sells what, how traders relate to the Post Station, and what to do if a merchant vanished from an old save.
Why Traders Matter
Early on you gather flax, berries, and wild queens by hand. Mid-game you run out of a seed type, miss a shrine reward, or need a crop that does not grow on the island you are standing on. Traders close that gap.
Official August notes added new traders across the islands, improved item descriptions, fixed several multiplayer and save issues, and restored missing rewards on older saves. Combined with 1.01.5, you can now:
- Buy seeds from traders
- Craft seeds again at the Workbench
- Read clearer tooltips before you spend honey or coins
- Recover merchant or shrine rewards that failed to apply after launch-week load bugs
Traders do not replace Earth orders. Orders still unlock islands and blueprints. Traders refill the inputs those orders consume.
Bear Merchant
The Bear Merchant is the first named vendor most players remember. Launch-week notes on July 29 said the Bear Merchant and the Shrine could disappear after a load. That persist-after-save bug was patched; saves where they already vanished may still be empty until the later trader/save-recovery pass.
If the bear is missing:
- Update to the latest Steam build (1.01.6 or newer).
- Visit the original meadow landmark again after the Island Traders notes.
- If the stall is still gone, start a fresh slot only after you have copied the old save — recovery was aimed at rewards, not always at a deleted world actor.
The bear is a convenience stall, not the only seed source. If he is gone, use other island traders or craft seeds at the Workbench.
Shrine Keepers and Landmark Vendors
Shrines sit on several islands. They behave like quiet vendors or offering stones rather than a full shop UI. Launch notes restored shrines that vanished on load. The later trader update also restored missing rewards tied to those landmarks.
Treat a shrine visit like a checklist stop when you first land:
- Interact once even if you have nothing to sell
- Read the new item descriptions — they are longer after the trader pass
- Come back after a reputation rank-up; some stalls refresh stock when Earth orders advance
New Island Traders (August 2026)
The Island Traders update placed additional vendors on the same biomes you already fly to. They are not a separate “city island.” Look for stalls near:
- The Main Island Post Station path
- Farest clearings (forest seeds, mushrooms, spare wood tools)
- Swamp landings (tea leaves, swamp-adjacent goods)
- Later eastern or alpine docks once those routes unlock
Stock is practical, not cosmetic-only. Seeds are the search term that matters: if a garden line died because you ate the last berries or never found raspberry starts, a trader plus the 1.01.5 Workbench recipe gets you planting again.
Seeds: Buy, Craft, or Forage
After 1.01.5:
| Source | Best for | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Wild plants | First of a crop | Still the discovery path |
| Island traders | Replacing a lost line | Spend honey or order coins |
| Workbench seed craft | Bulk replanting | Returned in 1.01.5 |
Do not wait until every plot is empty. Keep a small seed tin in a chest next to the hoe. Farming still needs water and tilling; traders only restock the packet.
How Trade Fits the Day
A clean mid-game day looks like this:
- Water beds and pull frames at home.
- Fill one Post Station order so reputation ticks.
- Ride the Medocycle — 1.01.6 lets you park extra stations on other islands and stash trade goods in the bike backpack.
- Buy seeds or missing shrine goods.
- Return home before weather turns; dynamic skies came back in 1.01.2.
In co-op, send one player on the trader circuit while another stays on extractors. Patch 1.01.6 also fixed guest hunger, thirst, and health bars sticking — useful if the shopper was the non-host.
Save Recovery and Missing Rewards
If a launch-week save never granted a merchant or shrine reward:
- Install the Island Traders build and reload the slot once
- Check inventory and mail-style reward pops before assuming the stall is empty
- Verify files on Steam if descriptions still look like placeholder text
The studio described this as save recovery, not a full new-game-plus. It will not invent items you never earned; it restores rewards that failed to apply.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where do I buy seeds in Island Beekeeper?
After 1.01.5 you can buy seeds from island traders or craft them at the Workbench. Wild plants remain the first way to discover a crop.
The Bear Merchant disappeared from my save. What now?
July 29 stopped merchants vanishing on future loads. The later Island Traders update restores missing rewards on older saves. Update Steam, revisit the meadow stall, and use other traders or seed crafts if the bear is still gone.
Do traders replace Post Station orders?
No. Orders still unlock islands and blueprints. Traders refill seeds and local goods so you can keep filling those orders.
Can I take trade goods on the Medocycle?
Yes. Patch 1.01.6 added backpack storage on the Medocycle and lets you build extra stations on other islands, which makes trader circuits much shorter.
